I have an amazing project -- a workshop, a festival, a performance, a series of poems, a mixtape, a song cycle -- that I am seeking funding to support.
I see significant innovations in my artistic practice in the next year.
I am planning groundbreaking community projects that are going to make a significant impact.
I would like to propose a project for this award.
Artists are strongly advised not to treat the application as a project proposal.
Study the guidelines to understand the purpose of the award and the criteria BEFORE you write you application.
The Artist Award recognizes the demonstrated history of the accomplishments and contributions of individual artists. The reviewers will look for evidence of that history of accomplishments and contributions. Future projects may play a part in understanding the promise an artist's career trajectory, but this award is not intended to offer funding for projects.
Think beyond a single project in order to narrate your whole creative histories, the impact of your work, how your think about your creative and cultural practice beyond mounting performance or pulling off a festival, or publishing a new work. Rather, uplift your demonstrated contributions to the Greater Houston BIPOC arts ecosystem and your own communities.
