In our current utilization of BIPOC, we include Black, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, and other communities of color. BANF relies on you to self-identify in the way you are most comfortable.
"Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC)" is a term adopted to expand on the more recognized term "People of Color" to acknowledge the historic anti-Blackness and Native American/Indigenous erasure that has shaped much of U.S. history.
While it is not necessary to self-identify as BIPOC to participate in BANF programs, the initiative was created to address historic exclusion and under-investments in communities of color. BANF's objectives focus on resourcing and networking the BIPOC arts and culture ecosystem in the Greater Houston Area.
